JONAVIŠKIAI, Lithuania — The saying “a Lithuanian is only happy when his neighbor’s house is on fire” came to life in the village of Jonaviškiai after a family dispute over property ended in a Molotov cocktail attack.
The dispute with a relative over a property turned nasty when Molotov cocktails, glass bottles filled with petrol and set alight with a burning rag, were thrown at a woman’s house, igniting her balcony.
The woman says that it is her relatives taking revenge against her, though police are yet to lay any charges.
Flowerpots and curtains were ignited at around 4.30 a.m. as the firebomb crashed into the property. Flames reaching the ceiling burned the balcony before it was extinguished. She realized her house was on fire when she smelled smoke coming from the opposite side of the house.
Another unbroken Molotov cocktail was found in the garden next to her house.
Jonaviškiai is located 40 km south of Kaunas.
