TALLINN — The Estonian government has little reaction to Russian criticism about their bilateral foreign relations.

Dmitry Rogozin, Russia’s main representative to NATO, told Baltic News Service last week that Estonia is not playing a constructive role in normalizing relations between the two countries. He urged Estonia to acknowledge that NATO and Russia are close partners, and “in this context Estonian politicians should grow up and learn to benefit from communicating to Russia for their own country and for the alliance as a whole.”

When Baltic Reports contacted the foreign ministry for a reaction, it said it would not comment beyond what the defense ministry told to the Baltic News Service earlier.

Jonatan Vseviov, director of the politics planning department at the defense ministry said Rogozin’s statements should not be taken seriously.

“Of course we noticed the interview with Mr. Rogozin, and what he said, but we are not surprised by it as we’ve heard such absurd statements before,” Vseviov told Baltic News Service. “This is rather kicking up dust than seriously discussing defense issues.”
