Estonian foreign trade down one third

TALLINN — Estonia’s imports and exports this year have decreased by around a third each comparing August 2009 to the year before, numbers from the Statistics Estonia released today show.

According to the preliminary data, in August 2009 exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 7.8 billion krooni (€498 million) at current prices and imports to Estonia comprised 9.3 billion krooni (€594 million).

Compared to August 2008, the value of exports of goods decreased by 30 percent or 3.4 billion krooni, and that of imports by 31 percent or 4.1 billion kroons. The decline, however, was partly caused by high comparative base indicators of the previous year, the statistics agency said.
