TALLINN — Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip demanded a public apology from Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar in an in an interview published in the Postimees newspaper Monday.

Ansip attacked Savisaar, the head of the rival Center Party, for making statements that the kroon would be devalued after election day.

“Savisaar wrote that on several occasions that the Estonian kroon would be devalued election day … at present, he should apologize, or at least explain why it did not happen,” Ansip said.

Ansip is also concerned, that Savisaar should apologize for claiming the conservative minority government is planning a pension cut.

“About the fact that Edgar Savisaar does not pay any attention to what International Monetary Fund has said about Estonia, or what the European Commission has said about Estonia, and the rating agency Moody’s, I am not surprised at all,” Ansip told Postimees. “He is just seeing the world differently, he only sees what he likes. The European Commission, IMF, Moody’s, The Economist does not share such opinions about the failure of the government. I also don’t share his opinion.”
