TOGLIATTI, Russia — Dinamo Riga have failed to complete an unbeaten trip on the road, going down 3-2 to hosts Lada.
Dinamo Riga again had the run of the puck early on as Jānis Sprukts put the visitors on the board with less than four minutes gone in the game. Having gone close on a number of occasions of late the big man was clearly happy to have found the back of the net.
Lada were soon after back in the game with a goal of their own to Denis Shemilin in the ninth minute. As the clock began to wind down for the first period and fans began to make their way to the hot-dog stand, Dinamo Riga managed to sneak in a late goal courtesy of Miķelis Rēdlihs with just 19 seconds left in the period.
Unfortunately this was to be the end of scoring for Dinamo Riga, as Lada added another two to their tally in the second period, coming at opposite ends of the period. Their second came in just the second minute when Denis Shemilin capitalized on a strong attacking play. Their third came with just over a minute remaining in the period when Konstantin Panov was on hand to put the home team in front.
Try as they might in the final period, Dinamo Riga were not able to conjure one final goal to force the game into extra time. While enjoying six minutes on the power-play, they were not able to break down the Lada defence.
Dinamo Riga will now return to their familiar surroundings to take on Spartak on Thursday.
