JELGAVA, Latvia — Lietuvos Rytas forward Artūras Jomantas has been named the Baltic Basketball League player of the month for December.
With Lietuvos Rytas participating in a high volume of matches in December as they caught up with other teams, it was hardly surprising that it was a player selected from their line-up for the award.
Throughout the month, Jomantas was predominantly the leading player in what is a truly outstanding outfit, one that is yet to drop a game in the BBL this season.
In a team in which players regularly score over 20 points a game, it was more the all-round work of Jomantas that helped him gain the reward. If the award was given on points per game it is fair to say that Jomantas would not be considered for the reward, having averaged just 11 points per game throughout December. Instead, he features highly in so many other stats, including an average of just under eight rebounds per game, two steals per game and over five assists per game.
Talking to BBL.net, Jomantas admitted that at the moment the BBL does not feature particularly highly on the priorities of his team, with most of their attention being given to Eurocup. However, come playoffs this tournament will become just as important as any other.
