TALLINN — The Northern District Prosecutor’s Office declared Friday that it had finished its investigation of a 34-year-old accused of abusing ten children, and submitted the case to the Harju County Court for trial proceedings three days earlier.
The prosecutor’s office arrested Jaanus, whose last name is not being divulged by authorities, in Sept. 2009 for abusing ten children from 1992 to 2009. The molester’s youngest victims were under five years old. Jaanus, who allegedly used the nickname “Elukas” (beast), is accused in child rape, using minors under 16 years of age for violent sex, using a minor for creation of pornographic work, and making and enabling the making of child porn. Court proceedings have not been scheduled yet.
The Northern District Police Prefecture child protection office says it discovered more than 2,000 photographs in Jaanus’ possession on different data carriers. The pictures showed girls below the age of 14 in erotic situations.
Kadri Põldaru, a prosecutor’s office spokeswoman said Jaanus was captured only thanks to the statement of the child’s legal guardian.
“A law enforcement agent received a statement from the child’s legal guardian, thanks to that the person was found,” Põldaru told Baltic Reports, “Previously there were no reports on the person’s possible sexual crimes.”
Põldaru said the child pornography was not meant for sale. It’s unclear how Jaanus could have carried out such crimes over 17 years without getting caught.
Police is not releasing any more information on the case in the interest of the prosecution of Jaanus.
