Baltic football leagues round-up Aug. 26-31

Meistriliiga (Estonia)

On Sunday the leading teams in the Meistriliiga continued to roll on with Sillamäe Kalev and Trans both recording convincing wins. At home Sillamäe Kalev was in commanding form disposing of Paide 3-0. Away from home, Trans was in even more of a destructive mode scoring seven unanswered goals against Kuressaare.

The damage was done in a 10-minute second half spell when Trans managed to put away four goals. In the other two games Kalju and Maag Tammeka both recorded away wins. Maag Tammeka pulled itself away from the bottom of the table by defeating Tulevik 1-0, while Tallinna Kalev kept a white-knuckle grip on the wooden spoon after going down 0-2 to Kalju.

LMT Virslīga (Latvia)

In a week that featured five games, only Olimps could secure a home win on Wednesday beating Tranzits 2-1. Jūrmala continued its recent vein of good form, putting in a strong away performance at Blazma, winning 3-0. In the biggest match-up of the week, Ventspils could not return to domestic action in winning fashion going down 1-2 at home to fellow table-toppers, Liepāja Metalurgs. Again Ventspils suffered from a poor start, unable to recover from a 2-0 half-time deficit.

The win sees the Metalurgs go three points clear at the top of the table, while Ventspils are now in danger of falling out of the top two. Skonto are now nipping at their toes after discarding of Daugava Riga 7-0.

After being on cloud nine just under a month ago, Ventspils need to reevaluate their current situation if they are to recover from a recent string of poor results. In the only other game 0f the round, Dinaburg recorded a 1-0 away win over Olimps.

A-Lyga (Lithuania)

All action in the A-Lyga took place on Sunday with all teams featuring. Vėtra temporarily moved one point clear of Ekranas at the top-of-the-table with a 3-0 home win over Kruoja, whilst Ekranas could only manage a 1-1 tie away to Suduva, who now sit just two points behind them on the table. Šiauliai and LKKA also fought to a 1-1 draw, while Tauras put in a strong away performance to come out victors 2-0 over Banga.
