Lietuvos Rytas fail to produce on the road

MÁLAGA, Spain – Lietuvos Rytas could not inflict Unicaja their first loss in Euroleague 09/10, going down 84-91 on Thursday evening.

The loss does not affect Lietuvos Rytas’ chances of moving through to the next stage, though as they remain sitting in third spot in their group with a 3-2 record.

Unicaja had complete control over the first half as they looked solid in claiming the first two periods to be cruising by ten (49-39) at the half. However Lietuvos Rytas looked a lot more determined in the third quarter, stringing together some good phases of play, bringing the deficit back to just four going into the final period.

Unfortunately for the Lithuanians an upset was not on the cards, proving that their third quarter was just a minor glitch on their way to victory as they drew the lead back out to seven to take the game by seven.

Following the game Lietuvos Rytas coach Rimas Kurtinaitis was optimistic in the face of defeat. Instead of dwelling on the fact that his team lost, he complimented his young side on pushing one of Europe’s powerhouses for the full four quarters.
