Russia pledges to ease inspections on Latvian trucks

RIGA — Latvia’s foreign minister Maris Riekstins announced Tuesday that he received a promise from the Russian Customs Service that the inspections of Latvian semi trucks will be eased.

The unwarned implementation of the inspections last week created major backups along the Latvian-Russian border as hundreds of lorries were forced to sit in sub-zero weather for days.

The foreign minister called the pledge “good news.”
