All Balts out of Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia — No Baltic players have managed to make it through to the second week of the Australian Open.

With Ernests “The Gull” Gulbis, Anastasija Sevastova and Kaia Kanepi already ousted, the hopes of the Baltics fell upon the shoulders of little heard-off Latvian Liga Dekmeijere, who was competing in the women’s doubles.

Unfortunately Dekameijere and her partner Elena Baltacha of Great Britain were no match for the opposites, Russian Maria Kirilenko and Pole Agieiszka Radwanska. The 15th seeds made easy work of their opponents, moving into the round of 16 with an easy 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Baltic Reports will now follow the fortunes of those who competed at the Australian Open as their thoughts now begin moving towards qualifying for the next Slam tourny, Roland Garros in France.
