ST. PETERSBURG — Dinamo Riga have been unable to repeat Friday’s come from behind victory falling 8-1 to SKA.

Dinamo Riga were completely outgunned by SKA who proved that it is no fluke that they are sitting atop the KHL championship. The defeat is the heaviest that has been enforced on Dinamo Riga this season.

CKA broke into the lead after 12 minutes but Dinamo Riga were able to answer right back two minutes later through Jānis Sprukts who continues to build his season goal tally. Up until this stage the game had been a tight affair and few could have predicted the one-sided affair that was about to follow.

The remaining six minutes of the first period saw another three goals as Dinamo Riga began to capitulate, but considering they trailed by the same deficit on Friday evening against Dinamo Moscow, a comeback certainly was not out of the question.

SKA had obviously paid attention to Dinamo Riga’s Friday evening performance, though and tightened their hold on the game with another two goals in the second period, both which came on power plays.

In the final period Dinamo Riga’s frustrations began to shine through as their game continued to disintegrate as CKA added insult to injury with another two goals.

Dinamo Riga need to put their hurt egos behind them and create a quick turn around in form with a crucial game against Severstal set to take place on Tuesday. Dinamo Riga’s place in Western League top eight remains for the time being but Torpedo have the opportunity to force their way back in with a victory in their game against the lowly-ranked Lada tomorrow. If Severstal are to win Tuesday’s encounter they will also come back into contention to overtake Dinamo Riga.
