Kuwaitis coming

VILNIUS — The national company Kuwait Petroleum Corporation has signaled their intention to move into the Lithuanian market, although exactly what may happen is unclear.

The company already sells some of its products in Lithuania such as engine oil. The company registered the [private_supervisor]company Kuwait Petroleum Lithuania last week, showing serious interest in the country. In Europe, the company operates in Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and previously worked in the UK.

It is yet unclear exactly what the company intends to do in Lithuania. Apart from its oil sales, it has not done business in the Baltics as yet.

Local fuel retailers have not commented on the new entrant to the market. However, Statoil is in the midst of separating its retail division into another legal entity, prompting speculation that it may be considering selling the Lithuanian chain to the Kuwaitis.
