Drunken trouble, arrests on two Baltic flights

The Estonian Air fligh was forced to make an emergency landing so the man could be put into police custody.

TALLINN — Estonian Air flight OV135 from Tallinn to Oslo was forced to make an emergency stopover in Stockholm on Sunday afternoon because of an unruly passenger.

A middle-aged Norwegian man, whose name is not being released, allegedly acted violently and attempted to attack a flight attendant. The passenger calmed down once the plane took off, but started making trouble again mid-flight. The cabin crew was then forced to push the man on the floor and keep him [private_supervisor]restrained for the duration of the flight.

Kenneth Knuts, an Arlanda Airport Police spokesman said that the passenger allegedly attacked two crew members, however no one was seriously injured.

Ilona Eskelinen, press spokeswoman of Estonian Air told Baltic Reports that the unruly passenger was transported out of the plane and was handed over to the authorities at Arlanda Airport, who are trying to find out the reason for his behavior.

“As the case is still fresh and what caused the man to act this way is still to be determined, then we cannot comment it more at this moment,” said Eskelinen.

A similar situation occurred on a Vilnius-London flight last week.

An older man on a Star1 flight from Vilnius to London’s Stansted Airport was arrested April 25 by Essex Police after attempting to open the plane’s emergency hatch mid-flight while inebriated.

“In an hour after takeoff one passenger, aged about 50, came up to our crew member and complained about his health. He was not feeling well, used the toilet and again said he felt shortage of fresh air … the crew offered him an oxygen mask which he refused and started to act aggressively,” Jurate Rupsiene told Baltic Reports.

The man was stopped at the last second by flight attendants, who then confined the visibly intoxicated man to his seat for the duration of the flight by a steward named Marius.

Then the man fell asleep for some time but woke up and started his fight all over, but this time was kept pinned in his seat.

Essex Police told Baltic Reports that the 51-year-old Lithuanian national, currently living in Dorset County, received only a police caution for being drunk and disorderly and was let go.
