Lithuanian driver plows into 14 German pedestrians

OLDENBURG, Germany — A Lithuanian man has been charged with attempted murder after his allegedly drunk driving antics landed one girl in hospital within inches of death and injured 13 others.

German police say the Lithuanian national Robertas Guzikas caused injury to 14 young adults after he ran into the group in the northwestern German town of Oldenburg on May 1.

Unhurt youths mobbed the car and unsuccessfully tried to pull the driver out of the car.

One 19-year-old girl was taken by helicopter to hospital, where she battled for life for three days before convalescence.

The youths were marching in a traditional parade on May 1.

Some of the victims involved in the crash have since consulted psychologists to help them deal with the accident.

Guzikas, who resides in a small town nearby Oldenburg, was caught with a blood alcohol reading of 0.21 percent the day after the incident.
