Tallink at a loss

TALLINN — Estonian investment bank LHV expects the AS Tallink Grupp shipping company to post a 83 million krooni (€5.3 million) net loss for the third quarter of the 2009-10 fiscal year.

Nils Vaikla, LHV analyst told the business newspaper Äripäev that Tallink’s results are expected to improve compared to the second quarter in 2010 and the third quarter of 2009. The expected income is 2.82 billion krooni (€180.2 million) which is 2.5 percent higher in the last quarter, and net loss would be 83 million krooni.

Tallink has been in the red since 2008. Vaikla said the improved numbers this year are from the 18 percent increased number of passengers and cargo traffic. The second quarter results were affected by high fuel costs caused by the freeze over the Gulf of Helsinki.
