Bauhof.ee hacked mysteriously

The Bauhof website had reverted to its normal display by Wednesday morning.

TALLINN — A hacker of unknown origin posted an odd message inexplicably on the website of Bauhof, Estonia’s largest building material and garden equipment retail chain.

Someone hacked into the website Tuesday evening, leaving a short note saying “17. august = Indoneesia iseseisvuspäev” (August 17 = Independence day of Indonesia) on the site’s main page. A flag of Indonesia was also added, with the phrase “Freedom for all” written next to it. The hacker also left a signature, “-a17z-“.

The company did not comment the issue at all, leaving questions such as why such message was left on the website and how the website’s security was breached unanswerable.

The note was removed by morning — it’s unclear how long it was up.

Bauhof did not say whether it would ask police to initiate an investigation.
